Públicos y actores en la democratización de la actividad científica

Resumen

En este artículo se quiere dilucidar a qué nos referimos cuando hablamos de “público” en relación con la ciencia. Teniendo en cuenta que la noción de público es relacional (se es “público” con respecto a otros agentes que serían “actores”), se proponen diferentes grados de participación e implicación que puede tener el “público” en la regulación y el desarrollo de la actividad científico-tecnológica. Para ello se analizarán las diferentes concepciones generales que se han sostenido con respecto a la ciencia a lo largo del siglo XX y el XXI, así como el papel que se ha esperado del público dentro de cada una de ellas. Se propone una clasificación que iría desde el mero espectador pasivo, pasando por consumidor responsable y crítico, colaborador en el diseño de políticas, para llegar a la de creador de ciencia, dejando así de ser “público” para convertirse a su vez en “actor” dentro del sistema científico.
