Abstract

The Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and the Pontifical Commission for Latin America (PCAL) of the Holy See have proposed to collaborate on a series of initiatives related to the emergence of AI in the fields of education, science, and culture. One of these initiatives is this special issue that we are presenting today, which brings together questions, demands, criticisms, and proposals, both technical and moral, to shed light on the current ethical issues surrounding AI and its influence in Ibero-America, a region characterized by persistent inequalities and an increasingly urgent need to fully embrace a technological revolution that, if properly managed, will diversify national economies, sophisticate healthcare, deepen education, and be in a position to solve long-standing problems.
