Abstract

This article evaluates the results of a science communication study focused on the history of science and technology carried out on the official Instagram profile of the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST). The guidelines of this study are presented, highlighting the importance of the iconographic collection relating to the history of science and technology in Brazil. A quantitative survey was carried out on the museum's social networks, verifying the engagement generated by the posts published. The research focused on the reception of content posted on Instagram, as this is the preferred social network of MAST's public. Through the use of a software called SentiStrength, a sentiment analysis was carried out on the comments left on the posts, classifying subjective expressions into negative, neutral and positive. It was observed that there are high levels of positivity and public affinity in relation to the proposed themes. At the same time, it was noticed that engagement on social networks also depends on factors that are sometimes difficult to predict.
