About the Journal

Focus and Scope

CTS aims at achieving a better articulation between science and society in the countries of Latin America and the Iberian peninsula, as well as promoting dialogue and initiating discussions on important issues related to its sphere. It evaluates the papers it receives from a regional, plural and interdisciplinary perspective.

Peer Review Process

The academic articles published in CTS have been previously approved based on a multi-instance referral system.

In a first stage of evaluation, the articles are reviewed by members of the Editorial Board, who check their relevance to the universe of STS studies. The articles approved in this instance are then sent to experts of international prestige, who evaluate them through a double-blind process. During this stage, experts can approve articles, approve them with minor revisions, approve them with major revisions or disapprove them. In case an article is approved with major revisions, a reassessment by the assigned reviewer will be required.

Reviewers do not charge for their participation in this process and are not part of the structure of CTS (Editorial Management, Editorial Coordination, Editorial Secretariat and Editorial Board). They are given a period of four weeks to deliver a first verdict, but may request time extensions.

Open Access Policy

Since 2007, CTS has provided open and free access to all its contents, including the complete archive of its quarterly edition and the different products presented in its electronic platform. This decision is based on the belief that offering free access to published materials helps to build a greater and better exchange of knowledge.

In turn, for the quarterly edition, CTS allows institutional and thematic repositories, as well as personal web pages, to self-archive articles in their post-print or editorial version, immediately after  the publication of the final version of each issue and under the condition that a link to the original source will be incorporated into the self-archive.

Journal History

From its very first edition, published in September 2003, the Revista Iberoamericana de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad - CTS (Ibero-American Science, Technology and Society Journal - STS) keeps focusing on achieving a better articulation between science and society in Latin American and Iberian countries, while promoting communication and starting discussions about important subjects within its scope. CTS’s approach is regional, and it evaluates and publishes articles received from a plural and interdisciplinary perspective. Along its history, it has published relevant works from Ibero-American researchers as well as from researchers from several other places.
