Abstract

A central theme of our time is the advance of the fourth industrial revolution and the consolidation of the so-called "digital society". It is difficult to exaggerate the extraordinary impact that microelectronics and telecommunications are having on the transformation of the productive system, democratic governance and ways of life. Addressing the social and political challenges posed by the emergence of Industry 4.0 today requires rethinking the objectives and contents of the education of technicians and engineers, as well as the values that define the relationship between technology and society.
