PRESENTATION: The STS Perspective on Education

Abstract

When we proposed the publication of a dossier about the STS perspective on education, we were moved to update the dossier that we had already published in 2005 in Revista Iberoamericana de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad —CTS with the title of "STS Education". Seventeen years have passed since that publication and both education and society have undergone important changes, many of them derived from technologies.

Author Biographies

Isabel P. Martins, UA

Professor of didactics of sciences, University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal, and member of CIDTFF - Center for the Research in Didactics and Technology in Teacher Training. President of the Ibero-American STS Association in Science Education since 2012. Consultant at the Ministry of Education of Portugal, author of chemistry programs for high school education and teacher training for experimental science education. Mariano Martin Gordillo, UNIOVI

Professor of philosophy in secondary education and associate professor in the Department of Education Sciences of the University of Oviedo (UNIOVI), Spain. He has collaborated with the CTS+I Chairs of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and has been a speaker at numerous teacher training and technical advisory activities held in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.
