Abstract

This article emphasizes the need to develop public participation in science and technology in Latin America. Some difficulties in applying methodologies created within industrialized countries are stressed. It is argued that the traditional university extension activities could be revitalized in order to stimulate instances of public participation such as science shops and dialogues among scientists and citizens.
