Abstract

Science exerts a powerful attraction on the imagination of most people. There is no shortage of apologists who emphasize the benefits of scientific development and, therefore, technological development, without sparing the use of the term "revolution". Steve Shapin (2000) alluded to the fact that "historians announced the real existence of a coherent, turbulent and culminating event that changed what was known about the natural world and the way in which correct knowledge of this world was achieved: the scientific revolution".
