Resumo

O debate sobre a biotecnologia já está em vigor há mais de três décadas. Tanto os defensores dessa tecnologia quanto os seus opositores apresentam argumentos voltados a convencer o público sobre seus benefícios ou riscos. Este artigo apresenta uma síntese dos resultados de diversas pesquisas realizadas na Europa, América do Norte e na região Ásia-Pacífico, com o objetivo de rastrear a percepção dos consumidores sobre a biotecnologia. A partir desse panorama, traça-se um perfil das opiniões do público sobre o tema e sugere-se que tanto os defensores quanto os críticos da biotecnologia podem estar deixando de lado os interesses e as preocupações do público no debate.
